Chet
Glenn was a promising young artist in Southern California when his
life journey took him on an unexpected path. Like so many young
people of the time, Chet put his dreams and aspirations on hold
to serve his country. It was the life-changing experience of Viet
Nam that helped him appreciate the importance of living one's dreams
in the moment. He recalls saying to himself during a particularly
intense firestorm, "If I ever get out of here, I am going to
live my dreams."
On
his return home, Chet began working in an art-production business
where he perfected the basics of building frames, stretching canvas
and laying the foundation for a fine painting. He understood that
"like the human body, a poorly stretched canvas or weak frame
will eventually cause it to be out of balance." It was also
during that time that Chet began to work with acrylic paints, using
its flexible nature to layer and blend in order to achieve motion,
energy and balance. Chet eventually became the company manager,
overseeing the creation, design and production of the sample paintings
selected for exhibitions where design representatives could view
and select pieces for private and corporate clients.
In
1971 Chet began to "live his dreams" when he and his family
moved to Hawaii. "I had the good fortune to vacation in Hawaii
with my family when I was 13 years old. I remember announcing that
I was going to live there when I grew up ... the dreams of a young
boy," Chet says with a smile. It was in Hawaii where he developed
his extraordinary skills as both an artist and practitioner of massage,
which included serving as Principal Therapist of the world-class
spa at the Fairmont Orchid. Always seeking to perfect himself, Chet
traveled to Thailand in 1993 where he had the opportunity to work
with a highly respected Master of Thai Massage at the Institute
in Chiang Mai. With characteristic devotion, he studied and practiced
the new application of his profession, going on to become a Certified
Master Instructor himself and giving seminars worldwide. As part
of a commitment to his community, Chet helped coordinate the volunteer
massage team for the Ford Ironman World Championship in Kailua-Kona
and was recognized in Triathlete Magazine as the "best sports massage
therapist in Kona."
While he continues to teach advanced anatomy
and sports massage around the State of Hawaii and was a staff instructor
at the Hawaii Islands School of Massage, Chet made the decision
in 2001 to re-dedicate himself to his lifelong dream of being a
serious artist. Over the past seven years, his work has been exhibited
throughout the Kona Coast. In 2009 Chet was invited to be the featured
artist in a showing of his abstract works in Manhattan, a unique
opportunity encouraging Chet to take his art to the next level.
He is currently represented in several corporate and private collections
throughout the United States, including that of golf great Vijay
Singh.
Chet Glenn resides on the Big Island of Hawaii,
which he credits as "an inexhaustible source for an artist's
soul."
